My Teaching
Philosophy
My teaching approach is holistic, conceptual, and question-oriented. I believe learning an instrument is a challenging and gratifying process and that every concept can be broken down in an accessible way. I am passionate about tailoring my approach to each student’s unique learning style, in addition to developing a balanced and flexible set-up at the instrument, a positive mindset, and healthy practice habits that foster a high level of musical independence from the outset. I help each student work toward specific goals and foster a nurturing, supportive studio environment that values creativity, community and a lifelong love for learning and sharing music. My students are curious, process-oriented critical thinkers who bring intentionality and resilience to all of their endeavors, musical and otherwise. They are comfortable taking risks and rising to high expectations knowing they have a strong, supportive network that believes wholeheartedly in their potential. No matter the age or level, I respect each student as a unique, expressive artist and strive to impart the invaluable, transferable skills that learning an instrument requires, such as the cultivation of self-discipline and awareness, focus, patience, resilience, empathy, creativity, critical thinking, and problem solving skills, to name but a few.
