“Teaching music is not my main purpose. I want to make good citizens. If children hear fine music from the day of their birth and learn to play it, they develop sensitivity, discipline and endurance. They get a beautiful heart.”

Suzuki Instruction

Suzuki lessons focus on listening, repetition, dedication to daily practice, and parental involvement. Fun and games create an inviting and positive learning atmosphere both in the weekly lesson and at home. Along with the entire cello studio, Suzuki families participate in studio recital and community engagement events.

Suzuki students learn both the Suzuki Method and Dr. Tanya Carey’s “Cello Playing is Easy” curriculum, which emphasizes a balanced and flexible set-up, reading fluency, and supplementary technique that aids advancement from an early stage. Families who are interested may also take Royal Conservatory exams and supplementary musicianship lessons that combine beginner piano with music theory and aural skills. As students advance, supplementary etudes, technique, and repertoire will be added.

All Suzuki students aged 10 and under are accompanied by a parent at their weekly lesson. The parent is actively engaged in the lesson, taking notes, videos, and asking questions. They learn alongside their child and serve as the at-home teacher.

Interested in taking Suzuki lessons?

Contact me for rates and availability. We will set up a phone call to discuss the Suzuki Method and whether it might be a good fit for your family.
Next, we will set up a trial lesson in person where I will provide you with educational materials and establish the Parent-Teacher-Student triangle.
If we decide to move forward, we will establish a weekly lesson time and begin your child’s Suzuki journey!
